How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and subtract the result from the price. Example: 20% off $100 is a $20 discount, so the final price is $80.
How do I find the original price from a discounted price?
Divide the final price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). Example: an $80 item sold at 20% off had an original price of 80 ÷ 0.8 = $100. Use reverse mode above.
Should tax be calculated before or after a discount?
In most checkouts, tax is applied after the discount is deducted, but rules vary by country and product. Check your receipt or local tax authority for exact handling.
