Percentage Change Calculator

Enter any two values and get the signed percentage change between them. Positive results mean an increase, negative results a decrease — the sign is always shown next to the number.

Worked example

80 → 100: ((100 − 80) ÷ 80) × 100 = +25%

How to calculate

  1. Enter the original (starting) value.
  2. Enter the new (final) value.
  3. Read the signed percentage change — plus means up, minus means down.

Formula

Percentage Change = ((New − Original) ÷ |Original|) × 100

Explanation

  • Stock and crypto price movements between two dates.
  • Any before/after comparison where the direction matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between percentage change, increase and decrease?

They use the same formula. Percentage change reports the signed result, while increase/decrease calculators present the magnitude for a rising or falling value.

Can percentage change exceed 100%?

Yes. A value that doubles increases by 100%; one that triples increases by 200%. Decreases, however, can never fall below −100% relative to the original.
